Red foxes and raccoon dogs are hosts for a wide range of parasites including important zoonotic helminths. The raccoon dog has recently invaded into Europe from the east. The contribution of this exotic species to the epidemiology of parasitic diseases, particularly parasitic zoonoses is unknown. The helminth fauna and the abundance of helminth infections were determined in 310 carcasses of hun...
متن کاملVariability of Sexual Dimorphism in Minnesota Mustelids
Sexual dimorphism is a fascinating evolutionary phenomenon to explore in depth, particularly within Carnivora and the family Mustelidae. Previous findings show high instances of dimorphism within these taxanomic groupings (Gittleman 1997), and in some instances the degree of dimorphism may be a short term responsive adaptation to environmental conditions (Powell 1997). It is then especially rel...
متن کاملThe Spatial Distribution of Mustelidae in France
We estimated the spatial distribution of 6 Mustelidae species in France using the data collected by the French national hunting and wildlife agency under the "small carnivorous species logbooks" program. The 1500 national wildlife protection officers working for this agency spend 80% of their working time traveling in the spatial area in which they have authority. During their travels, they occ...
متن کاملDiscussion of Related Species in North American Canids and Mustelids
Specimens of Filaroides milksi Whitlock, 1956 removed from the same lung tissue as were the type specimens were re-examined. Because of morphological features similar to those found in the genus Andersonstrongylus Webster, 1978 and inconsistent with those in Filaroides van Beneden, 1850, F. milksi is removed from the latter and placed in Andersonstrongylus as A. milksi (Whitlock, 1956). All ava...
